Michael [07 Jul 2009|11:22pm]
[ mood | indescribable ]

Today I had to say goodbye to my musical icon. Always tough for people who value music as highly as I do. All through my life, he was there. He gave me a song for any occasion, any mood, any situation.

When I was very young, I vividly remember watching the music video for Bad. Not long afterwards, I saw some Jackson 5 videos, and, obviously, a very different Michael. I asked my parents about it, and not once did I question him. I never asked 'why does he look SO different now?'. Did it ever really matter? I don't know about anyone else in my generation, but because of Michael I learned something important. I would see a white performer; I would see a black performer. It didn't matter what race they were. It was about the music and the messages that reached our ears. It IS about that. I share Michael's belief in the power of people, and that it is US who need to make a difference (not likely to happen, but ... the thought is there).

Just because I'm a fan, my judgement is not clouded. I don't believe he did those things that he was accused of. It just doesn't make sense.

No matter what, I will always have his music to be the anthem of my life. I'm honoured that I lived during his time, and that he inspired me in so many ways. I don't often shed tears over things, but I did for Michael today. I just hope that, as Marlon rightly said, your doubters and critics now leave you alone. Love you Michael xxxx

I am actually a regular on LJ, but I seem to rarely update. I think this tells me a lot about myself; I am a nosey bugger. XDD

Ever since primary school, I've been a bit of a history geek. I don't see myself as any other kind of geek, funnily enough. Others may beg to differ, but I would - no no, maybe the correct term is 'history buff'. This particular thang - windows into the past, knowing what happened long ago, well that just excites me. I used to read those awesome Horrible History books, which one by one fuelled my fascination. I think when I started learning history at higher academic levels it became more of a chore to learn dates, factoids, anything about periods of time and subjects that were out of my control. But now I have the power to decide! A little while back, I may have mentioned one of my favourite films that I watched again recently, Marie Antoinette. One question always bugged me; what happened to her children? The Dauphin, I was sad to discover, died in prison under the most horrifc circumstances. The daughter, however, escaped and lived a long, varied life. I had to find out more! And so I have. It's funny how certain things keep certain people occupied. I even drew a picture of her, which turned out quite nicely.

And I always thought that the French Revolution sounded dreary ...

Just a nice heads up folks!

Well, I'm glad I'm in full-time employment - I have been made aware of my student debt. It currently stands at roughly £13,000. At the moment, it's going up by £50 each month, which will actually increase as the balance does. Damn interest. So? I'm getting my ass in gear! half of my wages this month and next month will be going towards it. That's about £1,000. My moneeeeeeeeeeeey. T___T It's like watching it disappear. So, yeah. Not to sound ... uh ... negative, but just make sure you know what's going on with any loans you may have when you leave Uni. You don't necessarily have to pay it off in one go, but you need to keep an eye on those interest rates.

I mean, it still leaves me with a lovely sum to play around with each month, but still ... a lot of it goes SOMEHOW. What am I buying??? (Answer: books and cosplay bits, probably. And definately PS3 games.)

"Everyone is an escapee of a prison called 'myself'." [19 Jan 2009|05:59pm]
Today is DAY ONE. This has been drilled into us for weeks now. Day One is the first day of Lloyds Banking Group, which we are now a part of (we being C&G). We spent a good few minutes chuckling over image of all the executives sharing a laugh in a purposefully black-and-white photograph. Anything to make themselves look more exciting!

Songs of the day included 'The Sun Always Shines On TV' and 'Footprints In The Sand'. Right near the end of the day, a bloke came in and wanted to see someone about his mortgage. Colin, the mortgage advisor, wasn't it and Mel was busy with other customers. So this bloke perched himself on a chair and waited, but not before demanding some reading material. So, perhaps in an act of spite, Sam produced a copy of News of the World. The man sniffed, put on a smirk and said,
"Well well, this paper doesn't care who's running the country, just about the size of women's breasts."
Well, you all know me. I was outraged. In front of other customers as well! Sam laughed nervously, and the man then turned to me expecting an amused reaction no doubt.
"Heh." I said, and carried on reading about how to reprocess mortgages. The man proceeded to make a xenophobic remark whilst one of our Polish regulars was in the branch (he's a lovely old guy, too), and then run into the office as soon as Mel's appointment was over. I was half an hour late out of work due to this idiot. We all spent the time glaring at his back through the glass of the office.

To use a familiar expression of mine, he was well annoying.

So now I'm back at home, waiting with glee til tomorrow when two more volumes of Eyeshield 21 will be delievered to my door! I so much prefer reading manga in book form. Plus the covers are pretty.

"Burning a perm doesn't change it." [29 Dec 2008|08:07pm]
Somebody has given me a somewhat naaaaasty cold! My only consolation is that I have a precious half-day at work tomorrow ... those are the days I live for, seriously.

But yeah, for Christmas I was given Little Big Planet, Alan Carr's autobiography, Sleeping Beauty DVD and an array of highly girly items. All of which have been extremely useful, even if they simply alleviate BOREDOM. XD I hope everyone had a nice Christmas like I did. ^-^

Today, me and Sam went through a good few songs; China In Your Hand; Dancing On The Ceiling; Spirit In The Sky; some Mel C song; Pure And Simple; Perfect Day; another Lou Reed song; etc. Yes, we seem to both have a knack for retaining pointless song lyrics. XD Poor Mel, our manager, has to endure this nearly every day. She's a saint.

I have read through Mike and Jess's 2008 recollections, but I don't really feel the need to do so myself. What has happened other than leaving Uni and getting a job? Not a lot. I feel that, if I have to pigeon-hole it, it has been a year of realisation. Things just aren't going to be the same. I do believe that BAC as it once was is no more. Of course, people have always come and gone, but the vibe is no longer there. Ack, I'd better go before the cold shakes produce major typos. XDDD

"A Goukon Is The Most Entertaining Before It Starts." [12 Dec 2008|11:40pm]
Gintama. Yeah, I'm going on a long overdue binge of that particular series after concentrating on Soul Eater (largely) and Gundam 00 (mildly). The anime is apparantly in its final arc, and the manga has had apocalytic tones for a while now. Of course, I'll be devastated, but at least it won't become like the filler whores that it expertly parodies. :3

Of course, the PS3 takes up a lot of my time now! Valkyria Chronicles is a gem~ Fallout 3 is enjoyable and different, but I'm crap at it. XD I'm also trying to level up so I can compete in the final boss battles of Crisis Core, as well as leveling up in both FF Tactics and FFIII. It seems like in every game I'm playing I need to level up at this moment in time! I find alternating works well.

Me and Sam (my colleague) always seem to find a 'Song of the Day'. We speak-sing a line at a time when there aren't any customers around. I'm coping at work now, and I think we're a good team because we're all totally different. The only way up in this career-path is to become a Branch Manager (I don't think I could manage anyone!) or a Mortgage Advisor (just no) - I think I shall look for something else in six months time. C&G will take nearly a year of my life from me, but it could definately be worse. It could be Northern Rock!

Heeeelp, I'm behind on my Christmas shopping! It's so hard to be motivated to do it. Sorry for the uninspiring gifts this year, I'll try better next time! I think I'll start in October ...

It's a Shinsengumi game for the PS2. I made a beeline for Yamazaki - he's cute, but I think they had his Peacemaker design in mind ... XD I empathise with his short eyebrows symdrome. Here he is:

I don't fink so. [06 Nov 2008|11:19pm]
[ mood | moody ]

It's great to rant! I just ranted a whole load on this very page. And then I replaced it with this. What, you think I just give away snippets of myself for nothing? Bah!

Why is it that when I try to do something out of the ordinary, it pisses someone off and backfires spectacularly? Therefore, I think I am going to have to continue to sit and do nothing.

Noctis will be my friend. Yes. He is sooooo going to be a Princely Prince.

Well, it's a right kerfuffle if I don't say so myself! How come not only do two guys-sorta-people-ish-stuff come along at once, but do you end up feeling like you're being a cheat when you still have, let's face it, a big red stamp saying 'SINGLE' on your forehead? Not that I mind that, it's what I do. I'm far too private for all that. I have the barrier's up nearly 24/7. I like my space. So, therefore, I face the so-called consequences. I'm too much of a wimp to say no to things.

So when you get texts from two different guys asking if you'd like to meet up etc on the very same day, it's very confusing. Especially when you're as sceptical as me on the whole issue. What is their motive? Subject A, as we shall now call him, seems like he's at the end of his tether being single and went for the first person who showed him any kind of attention. Maybe I'm such a good flirt that he thought me joking around was a form of seduction. Good point is that he's older (albeit a few months) than me. But we have so little in common that it makes me ponder. What are his motives?

Subject B, now I do feel some slight chemistry (at least on my end). We have a real laugh, which is essential. He's younger (DAMN). Now maybe I'm taking it the wrong way; maybe it's just a mates thing. Which would be good! But I still have very little in common with him. He's definately one of THOSE kinds of guys - could have any girl he wanted, I suspect. So what are his motives?

Doctor Love can't solve her own riddles. I think I'm just gonna have to pack it all in and huddle at my desk, watching Marie Antoinette (the old film, not the new shittier one) on YouTube.

Snippets [29 Sep 2008|06:55pm]
Muse were at my Graduation! :O

So yeah, I graduated. Now I'm stuck at a job where I know bugger all, and I know everyday is going to be an up-hill battle, with the enemy raining bullets down on me and all I have to wield is a spatula. Why do you do it, you ask. I was 'encouraged' rather fervantly to take this job, and ok, it does pay nicely and looks good on a CV. But it really does nothing for my post-Uni mental squalor. I have to get on with doing the things I want to do in order for me to not have to ring people up everyday, asking the insane question: "May I ask what your mortgage situation currently is?" I must sound like I'm totally down, but I'm not. Only for 8 hours every day. ^^ All I need to do is think of all the STUFF I got from Japan, and the fact that I've dragged myself out of my over-draft after 3 years.

Me and Sarah have been assembling our Eyeshield 21 cosplays. X3 Hut hut hut!

Omg, I can't believe I haven't posted since I was in Japan really. XDD;; I thought I would share some photos of my swag - yes, predictably it's pretty much all either Gintama or Reborn! merchandise. I got so much Gintama stuff from Animate, they gave me about a million free stickers from the series. XD!

Well, tomorrow is my last day at Essilor. I have to say, it's really not been all that bad when I look back on the whole experience. I start at C&G on Monday :S Now that is scary! On the plus side, it's half an hour less work and fifteen minutes more lunchbreak. Oh god, those small things do make a difference. XD

YOU LOVE IT [02 Jul 2008|08:52pm]
You're looking at someone who passed their Uni course. :D I got sent my results today, earlier than expected, and I got my dream grade of 2-1 (a First would have been silly!). Needless to say I'm chuffed! My parents have promised to buy me, as a gift, a PS3 after I get back from Japan. SCOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE >D

And other news: I have a temporary job at Essilor in Thornbury, which is a place that manufactures lenses for glasses. I know NOTHING about glasses, but I'm learning. ^^; It's kinda dull, so I don't think I'll be sticking around, although it does pay £7.30 ph so SCOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE again!

Crisis Core is MUCH better than anticipated.
Pros :
- Sephiroth is much less gay than in Advent Children.
- It has cute references to the original game.
- The fighting system is engaging and fun.
- I've heard worse voice acting.
- The graphics are OH SO PRETTY.
- Cloud.

Cons :
- Zack can get a little annoying at times.
- Aeris has lost her spark a little (or, should I say, must gain it during FF7).
- It's too short!
- Reno and Rude show up like ONCE.
- Hojo.

Oh, but isn't weird? Since I started my job, which involves staring at a computer screen all day (surely I'm used to that?), my eyes have gone all bloodshot and ache a little. Upside is my vision is not impaired because of it. Coincidence? O__o
